![]() frequently asked questions WHAT AM I DOING HERE? Good question! Basically, a rift appeared in your world, and you were pulled into something called the Void. You then woke up here! Who knows how that happened, or why, but Kathashun (your friendly yet frustrated guide) has said that these rips in the universe are appearing everywhere, and they need to be closed or the universe is going to die. No pressure, right? How did these rips appear in the universe, you ask? No one really seems to know, but Kathashun has a theory. In Chapter One of Acatalepsy, a goddess-like entity named Astoria created this group of people called the Circle, in order to maintain balance in the universe. Her goal was to eradicate darkness… but something terrible happened to the Circle, and the Temple is now void of her presence. Now, in Chapter Two, the Circle functions only as a means of necessity, and you have two goals: (1) survive in the Temple and (2) venture into other worlds to mend the rifts in the Void. WHAT'S THIS ABOUT CHAPTER ONE/CHAPTER TWO? Acatalepsy began in May 2018 as a fantasy world-hopping RPG. In Chapter One, a goddess-like entity named Astoria created the Circle in order to maintain the balance of the universe, and sent them to different corners of the universe to defeat darkness. In July 2019, a catastrophic event shook the Temple of Beginnings to its core, and the purpose of the Circle shifted from eradicating darkness to just survival. Rifts began appearing all over the universe, and the Circle’s goal shifted from eradicating Darkness to simply stemming the damage. The Circle’s goal, now, is to try and prevent the universe from collapsing somehow… and maybe finding Astoria, who has since vanished from the Temple. That part, though, is entirely in the hands of your characters. WHAT ABOUT CANON POWERS, AGAIN? Also a good question! Canon powers do not work in Acatalepsy . . . usually. They may come back depending on where you go in the universe, and we will be sure to tell you when they do! But as a general rule, canon powers do not function. However, lucky you -- it seems the Temple just gives you a random ability, free of charge. This ability can be anything you want, as long as it isn't gamebreaking, and as long as it has some limitations! For example, you can turn yourself into a dinosaur, but you may be limited in how long it can last, or how frequently you can do it! You can heal any wound, but it may only work once a day! You cannot, however, give your character the ability to break out of Acatalepsy and ruin the game. That would just be shitty. If you have any questions about powers, comment on this post and we will be happy to say if it's okay or not. :) WHAT CAN MY CHARACTER BRING INTO GAME? The Temple is going to remove all weapons from your character, except one. You can keep one weapon and/or magical item that your character had on their person when they came to the Temple! For example, if Roy Mustang had a gun and his alchemy gloves on his person, he would only be allowed to keep one. Any other items on your person (like journals, wedding rings, flasks, magical cloaks, personal things, etc) you can keep! But weapons/magical weapons are limited to one (1) per person. If you are confused on whether your item counts, drop a comment below and we'll answer it! Oh, and if your character has a pet from home that you really want to take with them, we will allow one (1) pet, but if that pet has any magical properties, they are nerfed as well. WHAT CAN MY CHARACTERS FIND IN THE TEMPLE? Generally speaking, your character may find torn linens and a bunch of broken stuff, but nothing super outright helpful. You can scrounge for clothing, but there’s no guarantee that it will fit. You may also find some fruit trees that still have some fruit on them, and you can certainly hunt for game in the forest. Check out the setting page for a deeper description on what the building structure is like! WHEN DO MY CHARACTERS ARRIVE? The Test Drive Meme is ALWAYS canon in Acatalepsy, so you can consider your characters "arrival" to be in the TDM! The moment you are accepted, you can post logs, network posts, etc. Consider your characters members of the Circle! Speaking of the TDM . . . the memories of characters can stay of those who don't app in! The reason being because the temple is so amorphous, and the Temple can only bring so many people and hold so many people with their powers, sometimes more people filter through than they can handle! (In other words, an in-character explanation for the cap and also just the nature of people throwing characters on TDMs.) Sometimes people just go back home because their connection with the Temple isn't as strong, and the memories of all characters on the TDM remain, even if they do not app in. WHEN DO MY CHARACTERS LEAVE? OOCLY? When you drop/idle out! ICLY? Characters leave the Circle when the Temple "loses touch" with them. They are sent back to their home world with no members of the Circle, and it can happen in the Temple or in different worlds. It tends to be random, though. WHAT ABOUT COMMUNICATION? The Temple gives all characters a bracelet that is capable of video/voice/text/recording. Think of it like a magical Apple Watch. It is also how she communicates with all of you! Removing the bracelet won't hurt your character, but it will prevent Astoria from keeping track of you, and you will not be able to hear/see/etc the network. There will be no punitive actions for removing the watch and if your character would rather not wear it for whatever reason, cool! OKAY, HOW DO I CONTACT THE NPCS? Astoria, the prime NPC of Chapter One, can normally be found at However, you now have Kathashun, who is the prime NPC of Chapter Two! He can be found at WHAT DOES WORLD-HOPPING MEAN? The members of the Circle will primarily be staying in the Temple of Beginnings, rebuilding their world and learning how to survive without any real support system. Every so often, though, Kathashun will offer the characters an opportunity to leave the Temple in order to venture into another world, to perform a very specific mission. Sometimes, it will be closing a Rift in the Void. Sometimes, it will be trying to find an NPC. Or sometimes, it may just be to explore a new corner of the universe. For the most part, though, the characters will be in the Temple! Any adventures your characters go on will be entirely up to you, and wholly voluntarily. Kathashun won’t force you to do anything… though he will strongly encourage it. WHO CARES, WHAT ABOUT THE NITTY-GRITTY? AC? PACING? RATING? I feel you, man. Here's Acatalepsy in a nutshell? Application: Acatalepsy is a capped game! Only one hundred (100) players may be in the game at all times. We cap it because we want to make it a small, manageable game that isn't too fast paced. But here's a quick bullet-point list so you guys know what's up: ↠ Acatalepsy has a one hundred (100) player cap!Rating: Sexually explicit logs are okay as long as you label and lock them! Please put all R-rated material underneath a clearly labelled cut, and lock them to the community should they be in one. Any triggering material should similarly be labelled with an explicit warning on what you are discussing in the log/etc. Failure to respect this rule will result in discipline and/or potential expulsion. Do not be a dick about this, please. :) Here is an in-depth post concerning what plots are not allowed in Acatalepsy! AC: Activity check is monthly and requires ten (10) comments. These threads can be on the network, a log, inbox! However, we have a few tiny rules. You can find our full AC rules here! WHO CAN I APP TO ACATALEPSY? Generally speaking, we want characters where you use as little headcanon as possible in order to play them. It will be a case-by-case basis on whether we allow the character! If you can make an argument on why a character with little screen-time can be playable with evidence provided in canon, that's awesome! Go for it. We operate on a reserve system. Reserves get first-dibs. We do not allow challenge applications. If someone reserves and applies and gets rejected, feel free to then apply for that character within the same application cycle! We currently allow CRAU and OCs. We do not allow Fandom OCs, AUs, or doubles. If you are apping a CRAU character from an AU game, the mods will determine the allowance of that character on a case-by-case basis. We will reject any application that is a straight AU port from an AU game without any significant CRAU development in that game. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER DIES? Your character gets one free death with no price to be paid. However, that's a lot of magic Astoria has had to spend to ensure you don't die. After that death, should your character die again, you must speak to a mod to (1) obtain mod approval and (2) determine a price. When your character dies a second time, a price must be paid to bring them back to life. It can be a memory, a body part, or something deeply personal to them. Whatever it is, it has to be important -- Astoria can't keep bringing people back for free. Also, keep in mind . . . character deaths may affect the story one way or another. Keep that in mind when you decide to have your fun. ;) EXPANDING FURTHER, WHAT IS THE GENERAL FEEL OF THE GAME? Acatalepsy is a survival/fantasy RPG. This means that your characters are thrust into a world with little food/water/workable shelter, and your character has got to figure it out and survive. Further, your character has the opportunity to travel to different areas of the universe to do some amount of good. Some of these worlds may be darker than others, but all worlds will be opt-out! You may stay in the Temple and continue to do whatever it is your character is doing there if you don’t feel like world-hopping… or you can world-hop every single time! It’s entirely up to you. A NEW CANON JUST CAME OUT AND I WANT TO PLAY FROM IT! Great! We're super excited you want to play from this new thing! However, we have some rules on canon points/new canons in order to encourage everyone to tag your new character. Some people don't want to be spoiled immediately! ↠ Canons must be out for at least one month before they are considered appable. MY CHARACTER HAS A DISABILITY. IS THE TEMPLE/TECH ACCESSIBLE? Accommodations will be made for characters who require it! The bracelet will have text-to-speech and/or braille and the housing will magically adapt itself to whatever is necessary for the ease of your character's movement or needs! All of the "home" areas will be accessible depending on character need -- the world adapts to suit you. The Temple seems to adapt housing-wise, but characters with movement-related disabilities may have difficulty navigating the forest or rougher terrain outside of the Temple of Beginnings. Acatalepsy strives to be inclusive, and that includes characters, too! If your character has any needs, make sure to let us know! WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS? |
