canon update ▫
![]() canon update CANON UPDATE RULES Welcome, welcome! You want to canon update your character, WELL, you are in the right place! We don't have a lot of rules regarding canon updates, but here they are! You have two options for your canon update! They can either (1): get lost in the Forest of the Fey or (2): have it happen in their sleep. The first option provides an excuse for your character to wander around and get lost for a bit, if you need to take a break from the game! The second option happens overnight, while your character sleeps a bit longer than necessary . . . twelve hours or so, and you wake up with a fresh set of memories from your world. No one can really explain how this happens, but it does! ↠ The new canon rule regarding app-ability applies to canon updates. Your canon must be out for one month before you can canon update! This includes new episodes/books/movies/etc. |

Character | Journal: Barabas Gilliam |
New Canon Point: End of Magic Triumphs
Any new abilities?: Nope!
Any change in personality?: Yup!
So between his current canon point and his new canon point, Barabas makes some huge changes. He leaves the Pack and aligns himself with Curran and Kate as they step down from being Beast Lord and Consort. He summarizes why he does this to Kate -- that it's not only his loyalty and affection for Kate that has led him to make this choice. Instead his choice was made because he'd achieved all he could in the Pack. He'd become their lead legal counsel, adviser to the consort. From being the misfit even in the Clan of misfits, he'd clawed his way up by virtue of his own efforts and talents. And he's ready for more. He takes on a leadership role in the Mercenary Guild when Kate and Curran make a move to save it from tearing itself apart. In general, Barabas is exploring his independence and the extent of what he's capable of.
He also finally learns how to love someone, instead of disastrous short-lived romantic flings. Even if his relationship with Christopher has been... complicated to say it at best. In the end, they two do manage to come to terms with each other, given that they're engaged at this point.
There's also the mental adjustment that he and his have faced the major conflict that had been looming over them all this time and defeated Roland -- and by and large most of his friends and loved ones have come out alive. Not all. But most. It's better than any of them expected. This is an adjustment too, since the impending battle with Roland has been on his mind for a long time, and he'd been trying to maintain some sort of diplomatic space to buy them time to figure out how they were going to survive it.
So he's in the process of adjusting to some major life changes. Busy stretch for a while there.
Asleep or Forest? If Forest, indicate how long your character will be missing: Forest! He'll be away two days if that's cool. :D
APPROVED.
But during that time, he is suddenly bombarded with new memories . . . whispers in his year, a certain spell that washes over him, making him feel warm and protected . . . and, though Barabas may doubt it, he walks away from the experience knowing that whatever he has remembered is most assuredly real. Once the spell is completed, Barabas will find himself walking right back into the Temple, which is where he will learn he has been gone for about two days. Oops?

New Canon Point: post-game
Any new abilities?: Simon comes back in the Haimatsu Power Suit, a “high pressure power suit guaranteed to withstand temperatures spanning from 50°C to -75°C, while keeping a steady 40°C (default) on the inside. The suit will automatically shield the wearer from pressure and maintain the normal 1 ATM up to a depth of 5000m. The on-board controller monitors the wearer's physical state and is able to minimise risk of shock, hyperventilation, and even dehydration.” It basically looks like a hard space suit with the same spooky red-eyes robot face inside.
The game specifies that the suit amplifies the wearer’s movements and effective strength; we don’t get much of an idea of how this shakes out exactly, except that the instructions for putting it on warn the wearer about their new physical strength, and a character wearing one accidentally swings a wrench so hard they hit somebody and kill them. Since it’s made to withstand the pressures of the abyssal plain of the ocean and not exactly for athleticism, presumably it’s pretty much just a heavy suit that makes you stronger (maybe the level of the Nier androids’ nerfed strength minus all of the competence in using it?) but less agile and heavy as fuck.
However, one route you can take results in Simon having his arm chewed clean off by a monster, so obviously it’s not impervious to concentrated pressure. I will nerf all of the above as required; it’s his body but also they’re the properties of the suit as an object so idk if it’s closer to canon powers or a weapon/item?? Also this one has a headless corpse inside it too. Sometimes it just be like that.
Any change in personality?: So, this Simon is another copy (through the same scanning method that created Simon-2, the one who’s been here) of the previous Simon (we’re on Simon-3 now and I’m sorry SOMA is like this). Between his previous canon point and this one, he has mercy-killed two people, including Simon-2. His worst personality trait inadvertently murdered a third, his only remaining friend and ally on Earth, leaving him completely alone at the bottom of the decimated Earth’s ocean forever while his human-shaped digital copy gets to live in a virtual paradise that feels exactly like reality. So like... he’ll appreciate Astoria a lot more, I guess.
He’s guiltier, sadder, tireder, and feels even more estranged from his own humanity, both due to his actions and being an additional, extra-redundant Xerox of his human self — who, to really drive the point home, feels all the more like the Real™ Simon having crystallized in death as a guy who definitely never murdered anybody. So if being an entirely new entity that simply feels itself to be Simon because it was activated with those memories in it wasn’t bad before, he is now another one of those. Basically it just got overall worse.

Character | Journal: Morrigan |
New Canon Point: End of Dragon Age: Origins' DLC, Witch Hunt
Any new abilities?: None canonically, though I would like to drop her wolf form in game. Perhaps in exchange for extended or more often use of her high dragon form?
Any change in personality?: Yes.
From her previous canon point to the new, nearly two years have passed. The Warden agreed to her Dark Ritual, he and Alistair surviving the battle with Archdemon Urthemiel. The soul entered their unborn child, and Morrigan disappeared from the battlefield. In the coming months there were reports of someone matching her appearance wandering the mountainside, and that she was heavy with child. None would hear from her, but through the ring she had given the Warden--he could feel her regret and sorrow as she thought of him, and she thought of him often.
She had a son, who she named Kieran, and began raising him on her own. Two years after the battle in Denerim, the Wardens of Weisshaupt demanded they find her and bring her in for questioning as to her role in that final battle. It was about this time she stole a tome from a Dalish clan, and unlocked the use of the Eluvians. When the Warden followed her presence through the Ring and found her at one particular mirror she had activated, she chastised him for doing so; regarding his given reason ("I couldn't leave it like that.") with amusement before retorting that he'd once argued that love wasn't a weakness. Morrigan warned him that the world was about to change, and that her mother would soon be returning from the dead... if she hadn't already. She would have disappeared into the mirror, but the Warden was relentless in his desire to go with her and help her raise their son. She acquiesced, and the pair disappeared into the Crossroads together.
What this means for her personality, is that she has had two years of isolation with only her now months-old son for company. Constantly afraid of her not-so-humanlike-abomination of a mother finding them and taking him from her, yet she has staved off much of the paranoia that brings and is working hard to do her utmost to find a safe place for him to grow into a good lad. All the while trying her hardest not to make the same mistakes her mother did. Amell's presence started to alleviate this, but returning to the Circle will likely aggravate this again until she recalls everything and works through it.
Otherwise, she has lost some of her jagged edges. Morrigan has calmed down; while she remains self-assured in her own power and maintains her wits (and barbed tongue when necessary), she's less likely to bite someone's head off. It will be a long road, but fear of becoming her mother is a strong motivator. One that is allowing her to realize that Amell was right and love isn't entirely a weakness she'd been taught and accepted for so long. Also, she may be slowly studying manners at court...

However, you cannot swap or update your Astoria-granted abilities with a canon update. Morrigan's powers upon waking up will remain the same.

Character | Journal: Steve Rogers |
New Canon Point: Captain America: Civil War; after his pep talk with Wanda re: what went down with Crossbones.
Any new abilities?: No.
Any change in personality?: Not really! The only changes are really in circumstances. He's full-time avenging and training the kids (Wanda and Vision) with Natasha as his co-leader. The search for Bucky has gone cold. Maybe he's a little more tired? That's Steve on the daily regardless.

New Canon Point: 411: Seance and Sensibility
Any new abilities?: Nope.
Any change in personality?:
Asleep or Forest? If Forest, indicate how long your character will be missing: Forest, only for a couple days.
Bonus question: Would it be entirely possible for her to come out of the forest with a costume change from her musical number, or is that not a thing the forest can do? If it's not, that's totally fine, I'm still gonna bump her to the same place, just curious!

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)And unfortunately, Zari would not have her costume change from her musical number, but she will always have the memories. ;)
